Help Data Hub

What is the Data Hub?

The Data Hub is where the E3P community collects and shares data to support the E3P knowledge basis. It is designed to gather and link the numerous scattered pieces of data collected. It represents the evidence repository of the E3P.

The Data Hub is a living database, where the E3P community can gather the most updated dataset and make them readily accessible and reusable for other users. Datasets can be easily uploaded,  created, elaborated and shared.

The idea is that of creating a single point where to access a collection of data provided by experts who share their results with the rest of the community, allowing them to compare and cross reference up-to-date data which will support a robust knowledge building process across the energy efficiency sector.

You can browse and search the existing Datasets, here.

Who can contribute data?

All registered users who have received contributors' rights are entitled to contribute.

To register to the platform simply click on the Login button in the top menu, this will redirect you to the European Commission Authentication Service (ECAS), where you will be prompted to insert your details and create a profile.

All E3P users can browse and read Articles.

How can I upload a dataset?

Here is a brief step-by-step procedure to upload data to the Data Hub.

Step 1- Login
After having created your profile in ECAS you will be redirected to the E3P profile page that allows you to create your personal E3P profile within the platform. Contributor rights will be granted by an E3P administrator.

Step 2- where is the uploading?
Once logged in, you have two options to start contributing data:

  1. Homepage --> My Tools (Top Menu) --> My workbench (Admin panel) --> Create content (top right corner) --> from the list of items select Dataset.
  2. Homepage --> Start sharing (Data Hub illustration)

Step 3 – the Data Hub upload interface
The Dataset interface is comprised of five tabs where field entries need to be filled in. Here below are the tabs in detail:

  1. 'Properties' provides descriptive information about the Dataset.
  2. 'Data definitions & contents' refers to the naming of the columns of the Dataset, which is crucial to the correct visualisation of the dataset inside the E3P Data Hub. This tab also includes the upload function of the dataset, which for the time being is only in .csv format.
  3. 'Source and license' refers to the licensing and source of the dataset.
  4. 'References' allows you to provide extra references to the dataset uploaded, ie. uploading a document or linking the dataset to an external reference.
  5. 'Group Audience' allows you to assign the dataset to a specific interest group of the E3P, which in some cases will be visible only to the group members.

Step 4 – Validation and publication of the dataset
The Dataset will be validated by reviewers and, if approved it will be published on the E3P by the editor(s)

For a detailed step-by-step description see the Tutorial.

Can I save my datasets?

Each time you search and combine various datasets, the E3P allows you to save your personalised search in My Tools.

Can I assign my datasets to a specific audience (i.e. restrict the visibility of my dataset)?

While uploading a dataset you can select a specific audience (E3P Group) to which you can assign the article to. Depending on the group settings, your article will be available only from the group page or to the whole platform. This selection is made from the 'Group audience' tab of the Dataset editor interface.

What can other users do with the datasets I have uploaded?

Users who share content must agree on the E3P Terms of Use, which specify the licencing agreement.
Briefly, reuse is authorised, provided the source is acknowledged. The reuse policy of the European Commission is implemented by a Decision of 12 December 2011.
